After moving big pieces of furniture, you’ll most likely find large dents left in your carpet. At first glance these indentations seem impossible to remove, but with these simple techniques you can get your carpet looking as good as new. You can use several different methods to eradicate those dents, depending on their severity. This might be the easiest home maintenance job you can do!
Steam Iron: One of the most effective ways to restore your carpet is to steam it. Remove those impressions fast and effectively by spraying water followed by steam. Do not place an iron directly on the carpet, because it could burn.
Ice Cube: Another popular method to reinvigorate your carpet is to place an ice cube on each indentation. Let the ice melt on each dent. Once fully melted, absorb the excess water with a towel or sponge. Then use a coin, spoon, or vacuum to lift the fibers up.
Just as a blower dryer lifts and adds volume to hair, the same holds true for your carpet. Return that bounce by spritzing any dents with enough water to saturate the carpet fibers. Then heat the affected area with the blow dryer. Brush up the fibers with your fingers, spoon or a coin throughout the drying process.
Damp Towel & Iron
For deeper dents, use an iron and damp towel. Place a damp towel over the indented spot and iron over it slowly. Switch the iron to the cotton or wool setting and apply gentle pressure to the dent. Leave the towel on until it has dried completely. The combination of heat and moisture miraculously lift the dent.
Your Hands: You could save your carpet by simply teasing the carpet with your fingers. After about five to 10 minutes, vacuum over the area slowly to raise the carpet fibers.
Your carpet is sure to respond to at least one of these solutions. Use your judgment to determine which is most appropriate for your particular situation.
